Religious Identity in America

From its founding, the United States has been a religiously diverse nation while having the deepest and strongest ties to the Christian faith. Today, the vast majority of its people still self-identify as Christians. As the accompanying chart shows, while recent decades have seen an increase in people who self-identify as non-religious, the growth has slowed to a trickle. This chart also shows that the number of U.S. citizens who self-identify as adherants to religions other than Christianity has increased, but the total is still the smallest of the three categories.
