The invasion of Normandy, France on July 6, 1944 by the United States and her allies is considered to be one of the turning points of World War II.

The National D-Day Memorial honoring those who served and sacraficed is located in Bedford VA, the community suffering the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation, according to the official website. Over 4,000 allied soldiers died in the invasion.

The accompanying photos are from the 70th Anniversary commemoration of 2014 held in Normandy, France.
